Self awareness of the shape of my face so much more in tune in winter. Thru the sharpness of the cold I take ownership of millimeter after millimeter of flesh that is mine. Knowledge of every angle and curve. Details are alive. They move. All sensors firing in its battle to generate the warmth necessary to ward off the chill. Keeping that border of warm versus cold intact.
I can feel my entire face stretch into a smile when a deer pokes his head through the leafless willows. A face framed by a pair of two prong antlers studies me only momentarily before his neck stretches towards the weathered grass at his feet. Green days of summer are gone but he harbors no ill will towards what he is eating now. He takes what the earth gives him as he navigates seasons. An unpracticed acceptance and gratitude towards any of earths giftings
